CERVICAL SCREENING WEEK 17.6.24
This week is cervical screening awareness week
If you are aged 25 to 64 you will be invited by letter for a cervical screening test to check your cervix health. This is commonly called a smear test.
A smear test …
• Does not test for cancer, it’s a test to help prevent cancer.
• A sample of cells will be taken from your cervix to check for high risk human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause changes to the cells of your cervix.
• If high risk HPV cells are found the sample is checked for any changes in the cells of your cervix. These can be treated before they get a chance to turn into cervical cancer.
