Around 90% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes which is largely preventable through lifestyle changes. If not treated properly diabetes can lead to serious health conditions like blindness, amputation, stroke and heart attacks.

Some factors that make you more likely to develop diabetes type 2 you cannot change, such as your age, sex, ethnicity and diabetes prevalence in your family. However. you can impact your weight, waist size and blood pressure which all increase your likelihood to develop diabetes.

If you would like to check your risk of developing diabetes type 2 you can:-

Have a free NHS Health check at the surgery to assess your risk of Type 2 diabetes
